Falling

The day love came I did hesitate,
To allow it through the door;
For this heart does not initiate,
Who needs to ache and be sore?
Lost forever to me it may be,
I still have my fantasies.
Walk through? A valiant, vain attempt;
Though you have done nothing wrong,
I still hold love in contempt;
To you I say walk along,
But softly, and not too far away,
It may return strong some day.
What is it that I do seek? you ask;
You have the desired traits!
In truth, you do, I surely confess;
But love rarely ever lasts.
Linger not too far, time we can wait,
To discover if this is for real,
And if true, my heart revealed.
